Is Legolas coward? Question Im not Sure Was Ever Answered.
Is Legolas truly a coward or is there more to his character than meets the eye? Despite his incredible archery skills and bravery in battle, some fans have questioned whether Legolas' reluctance to engage in close combat and his preference for ranged attacks make him appear cowardly. What do you think?
Re: Is Legolas coward? Question Im not Sure Was Ever Answered.
I don't think so. Archers do not fight in close combat, because their strength is in accuracy and speed. They can hit enemies from afar, without exposing themselves to danger. Legolas does not avoid fighting, he just chooses the most effective way of fighting for his class. This is not cowardice, but wisdom and tactics.
Re: Is Legolas coward? Question Im not Sure Was Ever Answered.
Legolas is an elf, and elves in Tolkien's stories often prefer grace, agility and archery over brute strength. So his fighting style plays to his natural strengths as an elf rather than cowardice. As a companion of Aragorn and Gimli, he often balances out their preferences for close combat with his archery skills. So he complements their fighting styles.
And as Avis mentioned, as an archer, staying at a distance makes tactical sense. It allows him to take out enemies before they reach himlee combat puts him at greater risk. So his reluctance for close combat could be more strategic than cowardly.

Is Legolas coward? Questioning the bravery of the Elven archer.
Legolas may be skilled with a bow and arrow, but let's not forget that bravery is not solely defined by one's fighting abilities. Throughout the Lord of the Rings series, Legolas consistently puts himself in danger to protect his friends and aid in their quest. From battling orcs in Helm's Deep to facing the Nazgul on Amon Hen, Legolas proves time and time again that he is a courageous warrior. So, before questioning his bravery, perhaps we should take a closer look at his actions and the sacrifices he makes for the greater good.
