MMOexp Last Epoch: How the Build Works

Post by Stellaol »

The core of this build revolves around the Devouring Orbs. These orbs are unique because they automatically apply a damage-over-time (DoT) effect that spreads between enemies. The more you move, the more orbs spawn, and they deal significant Void damage to everything they touch. When you run through packs of enemies, the orbs shoot out projectiles that hit multiple targets at once, causing chain reactions of DoT damage. It's incredibly satisfying to watch enemies get nuked from Last Epoch gold every direction as you run through the map.

In the video below, you'll see the build in action during a 200 corruption monolith, and trust me, it's absolutely insane. The damage output is off the charts, and it's incredibly fun to watch all the enemies disintegrate under the power of the orbs.

Gear for the Build

Let's go over the key gear pieces you'll want to focus on to make the Devouring Orb Void Knight build work efficiently.

1. Forgotten Knight Set

Why It's Important: This set is crucial for this build as it provides Void penetration and 3% more Void damage per stack of Time Rot. We always want 12 stacks of Time Rot active, ensuring we get the maximum benefit.

2. Weapon: Primordial Exalted Set Item

Stats to Look for: I recommend using a Primordial Exalted weapon with 15% chance to gain haste on hit. This gives you a nice boost to move speed, helping you move around quickly and get more damage out of your orbs. You also want damage-over-time and spell damage rolls on the weapon.

3. Armor and Vitality

Vitality is a key stat for this build because it boosts spell damage for every point you have in it. So, stacking vitality increases your flat spell damage over time, making your orbs hit harder.

Chest: I haven't crafted the best chest piece yet, but a good one should have Void damage over time, health, and vitality.

4. Rings

Coral Rings: Focus on vitality and damage-over-time stats. Corruption can also be used for bonus defensive stats and additional damage boosts.

5. Belt: Orians Descent or Brewmaster

Orians Descent is a good choice for some extra damage and the cool smite effects, but you can also use the Brewmaster belt for added endurance if you want more survivability.

6. Boots

You'll want to focus on move speed, defensive stats, and vitality. Boots with defensive skills can also help with added tankiness.

7. Relics and Idols

Relic: I recommend using Code of the Erased, which boosts damage over time and adds a bit of vitality.

Idols: Aim for increased void damage over time or increased Time Rot chance. A large idol that grants Inspiration on kill is fantastic since it reduces cooldowns and lets you spam orbs faster.

Passive Skill Tree Setup

Sentinel Tree

Vitality and Juggernaut: Max out Vitality and Juggernaut for added tankiness and spell damage.

Smite: Grab Smite to boost your damage output. You don't need to max this node out early; just get the base functionality.

Armor Clad: Take some points in Armor Clad to improve your defense.

Once you've completed these points, shift to the Void Knight tree to unlock the Devouring Orb.

Void Knight Tree

Devouring Orb: Grab this skill early, as it's the backbone of your
damage output. Focus on Void damage over time and Time Rot damage scaling.

Abyssal Rush: Unlock this node to make the orbs auto-cast when you're moving, ensuring you're constantly applying damage while running.

Time Rot Chance: This is huge for your overall damage, especially when combined with the Void skills modifiers from your idols.

From there, take the Time Rot modifiers and increase your damage over time as much as possible. After that, fill in your Void penetration, attack speed, and cast speed nodes to scale your damage further.

Paladin Tree

This tree offers Symbols of Hope and other buffs to boost your defense and damage mitigation, giving you a bit more survivability in tough fights.

Skill Setup

Devouring Orb: This is the core skill of the build. Start by investing in Dark Moon for damage scaling and Abyssal Rush to auto-cast the orb while moving. As you progress, take Time Rot Chance and Eternal Decay for massive damage increases.

Holy Symbol: Use this skill for a passive boost to Void damage and endurance thresholds.
Anomaly: This skill creates a time bubble that significantly boosts your damage multiplier. You'll also gain slow, attack speed, and cast speed buffs from this node, which is essential for maximizing damage output.

Smite: Use Smite for single-target DPS, especially when dealing with cheap Last Epoch gold bosses or tougher mobs. Max out the Sacrifice node and convert the skill to Void damage.
