Only read the book first! It allows me to experience the story in its original form, to know it full with more depth and detail. This can enhance my understanding of the characters and plot when they later watch the movie. To tell the truth I wouldn't like the film if I hadn't read the book first. Especially Lord of the Ring. I know I might get stoned for this, but I didn't like the movie The Lord of the Rings. I don't understand the widespread admiration for it. The book version is the only one I appreciate.
