Fangorn and Isengard on the map

Post by Heidiiii »

In the story Fangorn seems to be right next to Isengard. The orcs burn the forest and the ents emerge to see the forest remains at the foot of Isengard. I haven’t read the book in awhile, but especially in the movies Fangorn is directly beside Isengard. Yet on most all of the maps there appears to be mountains in between the two. Any thoughts or explanations?
Thanks :)

Interesting observation! I think the maps can make Fangorn and Isengard look more separated than they actually are in the story. The terrain and scale probably explain some of the confusion, while the movies make their proximity feel much more immediate.

I think the map scale makes the distance look bigger than it really is. The book’s descriptions make it clear that Fangorn and Isengard are quite close.
